JPG (or JPEG)

Definition of JPEG

Originally this is a file extension for images that is being used on computers and mobile devices. In the crypto space it is also used to refer to PFP’s (Profile picture) and sometimes NFT’s (Non fungible token).

JPEG used in a sentence

“You can download this file as a JPG or PDF file.”

“Have you seen my new JPG?” (referring to PFP)

“The most common file extension for pictures is JPG.”

History of the term JPEG.

The term is an acronym for “Joint Photographic Experts Group” and this created the standard for lossy image compression back in 1992. The JPEG file was largely used for digital images and photos across the internet. The degree of file compression can be adjusted, more compression gives a bad image quality but a small file size and less compression creates a high quality with a larger file size.
