Observer Nodes

Observer nodes, also known as monitoring nodes or witness nodes, are computer servers or other devices that participate in a blockchain network by observing and recording transactions, but do not have the ability to verify or sign transactions. In a blockchain network, observer nodes play a role in helping to ensure the transparency and integrity of the network by providing a record of all the transactions that have occurred on the network.

Observer nodes may be used for a variety of purposes, including tracking the progress of transactions, monitoring network performance and activity, or providing data for analysis and reporting. Unlike signer nodes, which are responsible for verifying and signing transactions, observer nodes do not have the ability to participate in the consensus process and do not receive rewards for their contribution to the network.

Observer nodes are an important component of many blockchain networks and can play a useful role in helping to ensure the transparency and accountability of the network. However, they do not have the same level of influence or responsibility as signer nodes, and as such, may not be as critical to the overall security and stability of the network.

Example:

“As an independent researcher, I was interested in studying the activity on the XYZ blockchain network, so I decided to set up an observer node. By observing and recording all the transactions on the network, I was able to gather valuable data for my analysis and report on the network’s performance and activity.”
